John Edward Smith (1918-1964), 46, died unexpectedly Saturday night while visiting his mother, Mrs. Alice O. Sackett Smith, in Crescent City. Mr. Smith was a native of Crescent City, living in Ft. Lauderdale where he worked as a tug boat operator.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Smith; two daughters, Sandra and Mary; three sons, John, Lawrence and William, all of Fort Lauderdale; his mother; two brothers, William, August Earl of St. Marys, Ga.; and one sister, Mrs. Lawton Waters, Ocoee.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Clayton Frank and Sons Funeral Home, Crescent City, with Rev. John Hall, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Eden Cemetery. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd Monday, 12 Oct 1964.)
