Ivan C. Gum "B-Gum", son of the late William Gum and Julia Howell Gum was taken to his heavenly home on Saturday (Jan. 17, 2009). He was born July 6, 1918, in Norton, Randolph County, WV. Ivan, recently of The Arbors At Fairmont, formerly resided at Mohawk Dr., Barrackville, having moved from Laurel Run, Fairview, in 1977. Ivan worked with the Department of Highways, CPA, and was a retired coal miner having spent 40 years at Federal No. 1 Mine, Keystone Portal. He was a member of the UMWA and the Appalachian Indian Tribe in West Virginia. Ivan loved the Lord and was a Christian by faith.Survivors include three daughters, Mable and James Shaner of Uniontown, Pa., Ossie Kline and special friend Michael Dabate of Fairmont, Julia "judykay" and Pete Ozie of Fairmont; eight grandchildren, Shawn and Bob Pfrogner, Bill and Carla Haught Gum, Derenda Gum, Jeff and Marsha Gum, Marla Leary, Carl and Della Haught, Kristie and Steve Latocha and Patrick and Lisa Ozie; 14 great-grandchildren, Dustin and Nakita Moore, Alex and Hunter Gum, Ariel Leary, Laren and Evan Haught, Brandon, Kailee, and Emilee Latocha, Peyton and Dylan Ozie, Gunner and Maverick Gum. Ivan is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Ullyses Mullens of Morgantown. In addition to his parents, Ivan was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis C. Moore-Gum on April 1, 2000, they were married on Nov. 4, 1938 in Oakland, Md.; a son, William "Bill" Gum died in a 1966 mining accident at Loverage Mines, Fairview.; five brothers, Edward Paul "Junior", William "Bill", Cecil "Buster", Jackie "Johnny"; and one sister, Pauline Riffle. Family and friends may call at the Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont, today from 5 until 8 p.m. The Celebration of Death will be held at the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Daybrook Cemetery.
