Melvin D. Allen, age 76, of Topeka, Kansas, died May 1 at his home. He was born October 30, 1932, at a farm south of Belleville, Kansas, the son of Cecil Hector Allen and Elma Mae Persinger Allen.

He attended schools in Republic County then served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955, and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1989, after 31 years service. He was a member of the Rubber Workers Local Union No. 307, American Legion Post No. 400 and Goodyear Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2187.

He married Carlene Veteto at San Diego, California on June 12, 1953. She survives.

Also Surviving are daughters Pamela Herrmann, Topeka, Kansas, LaDonna F. Allen, Dallas, Texas, Teresa K. Bliss, Topeka, Kansas and son Steven C. Allen, Topeka, Kansas, and son-in-laws John Herrmann and Gary Bliss; grandchildren Angela Rumbley, Michael Rumbley and companion Judy Forbes of Topeka ,Kansas, Shanie Plantz and companion Jason Neal of Allen, Texas, Jennifer Bliss and Jacob Allen of Topeka, Kansas, Jenna Praeger and husband David of Topeka, Kansas, and nine great grandchildren, sister Ila Mae Duncan of Holt Summit, Missouri and sister-in-law Jeannie Allen of Scandia, Kansas, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Keith Allen and brother-in-law Charles Duncan.

Cremation has taken place.

Private graveside inurnment services will be held at a later date at Penwell Gabel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice care of Kansas or the Helping Hands Humane Society of Topeka, KS.
