Deseret Morning News, 01/26/07 Letitia Ione Dunn Ashbaker Jensen Smith passed away peacefully January 21, 2007 at the age of 97.

For the past several years she has been in a care facility in Chandler, AZ. Ione was born 1 November 1909 in Goshen, Idaho. She was the daughter of Oscar Smith Dunn and Media Elizabeth Nuttall. Ione had two sisters, Lois and Beryl. She had two brothers, Oscar and Howard.

She married Charles Freeman Ashbaker in the Logan LDS Temple 11 December 1931. Ione and Freeman had three children, Louan, Charles Kent and Linda Rae.

Freeman died 22 Feb. 1962. On 23 January 1967, she married Glen Jensen. He died 29 Dec. 1972. On 22 Dec. 1977 she married Marvin Smith. He died 27 March 1991.

Ione is survived by her brother, Howard Dunn, Salt Lake City; her children, Louan Olsen, North Salt Lake, Kent Ashbaker, Kennewick, WA., and Linda Tingey, Gilbert, AZ; along with step-sons, Kim Jensen, Ogden; and Dell Jensen, Cerritos, CA. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grand-children, and 23 great-great grandchildren. Ione was always an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She held many positions of responsibility, particularly in the area of music. Freeman and Ione sang so beautifully together that they were much in demand all over Gem Valley for funerals, church services, etc. Ione was a school teacher for many years. After getting a two-year teaching certificate from Utah State Agricultural College, she started her teaching career at Tyhee, Idaho. After her marriage to Freeman, she taught for many years at the Grace Elementary School and the surrounding rural schools at Alexander and Telluride.

Ione was never satisfied with her two-year degree. After many years of summer school and correspondence courses, she finally completed her Bachelors degree at Utah State University, May 1958. Ione was loved and admired by all who knew her. She was always warm and loving even in the last few years when she was so ill. She always smiled and said she was fine.

Her funeral will be held 10:00 a.m. January 27, 2007 at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Grace City Cemetery, Grace, Idaho. Published in the Deseret News on 1/26/2007.
