She was the sister of: Karl Albin Andersson (1886-1975),Axel Gerhard Andersson (b. 1891,Signa Maria Adersson (1893-1918),Elin Matilda Andersson (b. 1894), and Karl Erik Andersson (1901-1981).
Gerda immigrated to the United States at age 18. She sailed on the S.S. St. Louis with her Aunt Axelina (who also sponsored her), arriving in the port of New York on November 18, 1906, and went through Ellis Island for immigration processing. She then went with Axelina to Wilmington DE, where her aunt had a job working for the wealthy DuPont family. When her cousins, Tekla and Signe Larsson immigrated from Sweden, the three girls moved to Philadelphia PA, where Gerda got a job working in domestic service as a maid for a wealthy family in the Rittenhouse Square area of Philadelphia.
It was in here that she met her future husband, William Evans, who also worked in this household as a butler.
Gerda and William were married in Camden, NJ on May 27, 1911. They were the parents of two boys and one daughter.
Later in her marriage she worked as a sales clerk for the Gimbels Department Store in Philadelphia.
On February 23, 1944, Gerda became an American citizen at the age of 55.
