Eric arrived in New York on May 30, 1906 aboard the steamship 'Carmania' and lodged with his Swedish cousin Johan O. Johanson in Brooklyn, New York. His younger brother Herman Jonas Nystrom (memorial #34239169), arrived May 31, 1911 from Sweden and boarded with them.

Eric was a talented carpenter, joiner and furniture maker. He worked for several years in work contracted by Wanamaker's Department Store in Philadelphia, where he refurbished the administrative offices with paneling, etc.
