RUTH VANDERVEER, 95, formerly of Milford, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born May 4, 1913, in Plymouth, Ind., she was the daughter of the late William and Vera (Burns) Markley. She married Merrill Vanderveer on March 19, 1938; he preceded her in death in 1999.

Surviving are her daughter, Marcia (Jim) Neuhouser of Grabill; sons, Lowell (Jan) Vanderveer of Goshen and Loyal (Susie) Vanderveer of Williamsport, Md.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Grover and Wilma Markley.

"She loved the Lord and was very caring and thoughtful in helping other people. She cared and loved her family as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother." She enjoyed crocheting and making comforters. She was a member of the Turkey Creek Church of the Brethren and attended North Leo Mennonite Church. She was a homemaker most of her life on a farm in Milford, and had resided at The Cedars, in Leo since 1999.

Service is 2 p.m. Sunday, with calling one hour prior, at North Leo Mennonite Church. Pastor Jonathan Larson and Robin LaRue officiating. Calling also from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Burial is 11 a.m. Monday at Milford Cemetery, Milford. Memorials may be made to The Cedars, 14409 Sunrise Court, Leo, IN 46765 or Heartland Hospice, 1315 Directors Row Suite 210 , Fort Wayne, IN 46808. Arrangements by Carnahan-Baidinger & Walter Funeral Home, Spencerville.
