Lucille M. Cook, 86, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 28, 2009, following a long illness.

Born November 9, 1922, at Grandview, she was the daughter of the late John "Roy" Goddard (1902-1976) and Myrtle Dale Hill-Goddard (1905-1985).

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James "Otis" Cook (1930-2005) whom she married on July 3, 1941 in New Richmond, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1941, Page 163, Application Date: June 30, 1941), her twin sister Louise R. Goddard-Fisher (Deceased), granddaughter, Angela Dawn Blackburn (1969-1969), and son-in-law, Joe Otis Blackburn (1942-2004).

Mrs. Cook was an active member of Toneda Missionary Baptist Church where she served as past Sunday School teacher for many years, VBS director, church reporter and numerous boards and committees. She was a member of the AB Women's Ministries and served as past president and past president and secretary of Rockcastle Baptist Association AB Women's Ministries.

Instrumental in starting the Christian Women's Fellowship and an avid volunteer for the Cancer Drives, Red Cross and Oceana functions, she found joy in helping the elderly, those in need and daily serving the Lord.

She was a long-standing member of the Oceana Women's Club, where she served as past president, secretary and chairman of the American Red Cross Blood Drive for many years. She was honored as Woman of the Year- Celebrate Women 1997.

She is survived by a son, Donnie Lee Cook and wife, Patricia, of Dublin, VA; daughter, Peggy Lou Cook-Blackburn (1946-2014) of Oceana, two brothers, John Alvin Goddard (1926-2010) and wife Violet Goddard, James "Jim" Calvin Goddard (1929-2017) and wife Mary Frances Davis-Goddard (B. 1929), of Beckley; a sister, Virginia "Catherine" Goddard-Stewart (1932-2017) and husband, Carl Morris Stewart (1930-2012) of Pineville.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, James L. Cook and wife Dawn Cook of Oceana, Rodney A. Cook and wife Lisa Cook of Sutton, Shane Hawk and husband Darrin Hawk of Roanoke, VA, Toni R. Stewart and husband Ralph Stewart of Oceana, Vernon B. Blackburn and wife Trisha Blackburn of Hendersonville, TN, Donald Cook II and wife Tara Cook of Christiansburg, VA, Callie B. Cook of Matheny, and step-grandchild Melissa Stump of Dublin, VA; great-grandchildren, Marina R. Stewart of Oceana, Garrett Hawk of Roanoke, VA, Jamie M. Cook of Oceana, Nathan Cook of Oceana, Cody L. Stewart of Oceana, Payton C. Hawk of Roanoke, VA, Erin D. Cook of Oceana and stepgreat-grandchild, Cortney D. Stewart of San Francisco, CA.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Toneda Missionary Baptist Church, Oceana, 1:00 p.m. today, Friday, May 1, with Rev. Jim Hamrick, Pastor, officiating. Dr. Thomas Harvey Milam will present "Glimpse of Glory." Music will be provided by Ricky Proffitt and piano soloist Gina Tichnell.
Burial will follow in the Garden of the Christus, Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
