L. Jay Henderson, a former resident of Merced, died Saturday in a Fresno hospital. Born May 9, 1926 in Mckinney, Texas, to Linzie Madison and Oatie Lester (Jones) Henderson. Mr. Henderson was a baker at Rainbo Bakery for 35 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ and Merced Boots and Slippers Squaredance Club. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Mathiesen and husband Richard of Fresno; two sons, Charles Edward (Chuck) and wife Donna Henderson of Fresno, and L. Jay Henderson Jr., of Bakersfield; one brother Teddy Ray Henderson of Plainview, and three sisters, Mary Arlene (Henderson)Cloud and husband Orville of Lemon Cove, Walter Rean (Henderson) Lackey and husband Patrick of Ducor, and Oatie Katherine (Henderson) Delong and husband Pete of Plainview; a brother, Ted Henderson of Plainview; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Chapel. Graveside services will be held at Merced District Cemetery Friday at 2 p.m. with Arthur Navarro officiating.
