Methodist Congregation Loses Valued Member
Joseph. Oct. 27.-- After many months of suffering from kidney troubles death mercifully relieved Reece Lay, Tuesday, October 21, at about three o'clock in the afternoon.
His death was not a surprise as it was known for some time that he could not get well. Mr. Lay had been bothered with kidney trouble for the last two years and last March he went to Portland and was operated on. He improved for some time and then gradually became worse.
George Reece Lay, retired farmer, and rancher was born in Missouri on May 14, 1876, to Thomas H. Lay and Elizabeth (Pickett) Lay. In 1901 he came with his parents to Joseph.
On January 1, 1909, he married Miss Kathryn Hohman of Huntington, Pa.
Mr. Lay was a trustee of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was a devout Christian. The other six trustees acted as pallbearers at the funeral.
He leaves to mourn are two sisters, Mrs. Chas. Craven and Mrs.
W. S. Miller of Flora; and two brothers, Joseph and William.
The Lay family has been sorely tried the last year as four family members of that family have died since March.
