George Carl Wilken,88 of Mountain Home passed away April 6, 2009 at Hospice House. George was born in Macon, Nebraska on January 5, 1921 to William F. and Greta Marie Wilken. George grew up one of 8 boys in SW Kansas during the dust bowl and depression. He married Martha Burkart on April 18, 1942. George received a purple heart and other metals for his service in the Army during WWII. He was wounded in the Battle of Casino in Italy.
In the fall of 1950 George and Martha and 3 children moved to Arkansas and built their rock home north of Mountain Home. George enjoyed a life of helping others and had many friends. He appreciated each day.
George is survived by his wife, Martha of the home; two daughters, Georgia Barrett (Jakie) of Mountain Home; Donna (Bob) Treat, of Fayetteville; a son, Denny (Linda) Wilken of Salem; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Henry Wilken of Austin, Texas; sister-in-law Ada Romer of Prairie Grove, AR
Funeral service is Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 1 PM at Roller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Shy officiating. Burial will follow in Baxter memorial Gardens. Visitation is private.
Pallbearers: Dr. Shaun Treat, Shane Barrett, Stace Treat, Justin Wilken and Jimmy Mincey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice House.
