Death Of An Old Resident of Fort Wayne
He Was Nearly Seventy-Four Years of Age and One of the Oldest Members of St Paul's Church
William Baade, who for years conducted a trucking business in Fort Wayne and who was widely known through out the city, died Sunday at his home, 733 East Jefferson street. He had been suffering for some time of the infirmities incident to one of his years. He was nearly seventy four years of age. Mr. Baade was a native of Germany. He was born at Windheim on March 9, 1830 and came to America when a young man. He soon located in America and engaged first in canal boating and later in teaming. He built up a large trucking business and prospered at the same time making a wide circle of acquaintances and forming friendships that never waned. He was a man of fine character, absolutely upright and of un-answering integrity. He retired from active business some years ago but retained his physical vigor until last spring when he began to fail in health. For some time past, he continued to grow weaker and at noon Sunday the end came quietly and peacefully.
Mr. Baade was one of the oldest members of St Paul's Lutheran church and his life was that of a true Christian man. He took an active interest in church affairs and was one of the most prominent men in Lutheranism in this city. Last spring Mr. and Mrs. Baade celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Baade and the following children survive: Miss Elsie Baade, who lives at home; William C Baade, the well known book dealer and former councilman; Fred C Baade of the gas offices; the Rev MC Baade and a stepson, CF Benke. There are thirteen grandchildren and these brothers and sisters: Christian Baade, Mrs. Louise Tielker and Mrs. Mina Tielker. Fort Wayne Journal Gazette - January 18, 1904
