John K. Abildgaard, 88, died May 21, 2005, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

He was born March 5, 1917, at a dairy farm near Mulvane, the son of Mark and Ruth Henthorne Abildgaard. He graduated from Wichita East High School in 1936. A Hutchinson resident since 1947, he had formerly worked at Cessna, Beechcraft and Boeing before working for Woodwork Manufacturing, Architectural Millwork and Builders Woodwork and Supply as a woodworker and cabinetmaker, retiring in 1982.

He belonged to the First Presbyterian Church, life member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge No. 124 A.F. and A.M. serving as Past Master, Order of Eastern Star No. 464, Silver Leaf Chapter, serving as Past Patron and the Hutchinson Masonic High Twelve Club No. 571. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.

On Feb. 11, 1955, he married Faye Smith Roland at Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Walt and his wife Lou, Hutchinson; a daughter, Jane, Leawood; a stepbrother, Max Amos, Wichita; several nephews and nieces; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepmother, Olive Amos Abildgaard, a brother, Robert, a sister, Jean Fisher, a stepsister, Barbara Brittain and a stepbrother, Woody Amos.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Tim Soule presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Penwell Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard and Masonic rites conducted by the Hutchinson Reno Masonic Lodge.

Memorials may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, Hospice of Reno County, or to the donor's choice, all in care of the funeral home.
