Alice Howard Whitehead, 78 of Lexington, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Tue, April 27, 2009 at home after an extended illness of Alzheimers. Alice was born in the Harlan County community of Loyall on Oct 1, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Hamp L. and Jesse Rogers Howard.

She is the wife of Samuel "Frosty" Whitehead. She was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church. She was a former manager of the claims accounting department of American Mutual Insurance Co. She was a member of the Insurance Womens League. A former operator of the Sweet Shop in Crab Orchard. She loved to bowl and enjoyed the fellowship with other bowlers.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 60 years, Frosty Whitehead of Lexington; three children, Rhonda and husband Levi Gordon of Lexington, Gary Whitehead of Lexington, Avonia and husband Joseph Allor of Lexington; one brother, Jimmy Wayne Howard of Brodhead; two sisters, Erna and husband, Jaro Albright of Crab Orchard, Sheryll and husband Mike Goodwin of Stanford; four grandchildren, Lani Whitehead of Lexington, Chia Gordan of Lexington, Stacy and husband Chris McCann of Seattle, WA, Hunter Gastineau of Versailles; two great grandchildren, Ciaran and Owen Samuel McCann of Seattle, WA; caregivers, Nancy Tackett and Mary Ann Irvin; brother-in-law, Willie Ray and wife Betty Whitehead of Owington, brother-in-law, Donald Hooker of Sharonville, OH, brother-in-law, Dale Bray of Maretburg. She was preceded in death by: one granddaughter, Alisha Gastineau; two sisters, Virginia "Jen" Clark and Sonja Kay Hooker.

Funeral date and time, Fri, May 1, 2009 at 4pm. Place of services, Crab Orchard Baptist Church. Minister, Bro. Kaywood Morris. Place of Burial, Crab Orchard Cemetery. Pallbearers include, Roger and Richie Bray, Hunter Gastineau, Chia Gordon, Nickey Goodin, Joy Albright. Visitation after 6pm Thu, April 30, 2009 at Crab Orchard Baptist Church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Bluegrass at 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.
