About 17 years ago our friend was seriously injured in an accident while shelling corn, which undermined his health. Mr. Decker was of a rather quiet, unassuming disposition, and was an affectionate husband and father. The illness which caused his death was of a short duration. It started with pleurisy which developed into pneumonia, and in less than a week the patient had succumbed. He died on Monday afternoon, Feb. 21, 1921, at 4 o'clock. Those who mourn his death are his wife, his sons William, Arend and Gilbert, two daughters, Mrs. Kate Herr and Alice, one sister, Mrs. Harm Lehners, and many other relatives and friends. His age was 56 years, 1 month and 21 days. The funeral was held on Friday, Feb. 25, 1921, from the Lutheran Church at Danforth, Ill., conducted by Rev. H. Staehling. Interment in the Lutheran Cemetery.
