Albert Cox Dies At 64
Albert C. (Al) Cox, 64, retired chief boatswain's mate of the United States Navy, died at 5:10 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Ft. Leavenworth hospital. He suffered a heart attack Monday night at his home, 937 Atchison, and was taken to the hospital. He was a veteran of both world wars.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sawin & Dyer chapel. The Rev. Harold Roberts, pastor of the First Christian church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Ft. Leavenworth national cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Full military rites will be conducted at the grave.
Albert Clarence Cox was born April 12, 1898, at Wetmore, a son of George and Eva May Ashton Cox. He was two years old when his parents moved to Atchison. After attending the Atchison public schools he enlisted in the navy on Nov. 23, 1916 at the age of 17. He retired on Nov. 25, 1945, after 29 years of service. For many years prior to his retirement he was chief boatswain's mate.
Dec. 19, 1927, he married Miss Hazel Teter at Kansas City. Besides his wife of the home he leaves five sisters, Miss Berniece Cox, and Mrs. Velda Marlatt, both of Atchison, Mrs. Maude Horton, and Mrs. Daisy Clark, both of Wichita, and Mrs. Earl Hoffman, Manhattan. Two brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Cox was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the Retired Officers Association, the Elks lodge at Grand Juntion, Colo., and the Odd Fellows lodge of Kansas City, Kas. Mr. Cox was a friendly, kindly and charitable man who was devoted to his family and friends and who did a great deal to help others.
