Joseph (Jake) Grenat, 69, passed away Dec. 21, 2007, after valiantly fighting and finally succumbing to a 13-year battle with cancer. He was a resident of Thousand Oaks, Calif., in Ventura County for 29 years.

Joseph was born at home in Coalmont, Ind., Dec. 6, 1938, to Allen and Mildred Grenat. He was the second oldest of five children. He was raised in Indiana, spending most of his youth in Lafayette, Ind., until moving to California in the 1960s. In 1962 through 1965 he served in United States Army Reserve.

Joseph earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Northridge University. In June of 1966, he married Carmen Annamaria Gengerelli. A daughter, Christa Carmen, was born in 1969 and a second daughter, Catherine Sue, was born in 1975.

Joseph worked for the State Board of Equalization as an auditor, and subsequently was hired by Arco Solar and Siemens Solar as a financial analyst until his retirement.

He leaves his wife, Carmen; daughters, Christa and Cathy; son-in-law Bill Hatten; brother, Eugene Grenat (wife: Marilyn Grenat); sisters, Ruth O'Connor, Connie Stair (husband: Russell); sister-in-law, Marsha Grenat.

Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Grenat, and parents, Allen and Mildred Grenat.
