He was born March 17, 1923, in International Falls, Minn., to Marion and Ruby (McCullum) Wright, and grew up in northern Minnesota. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 in North Africa and Italy, and in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1949 in Hawaii and Seattle.
In 1949, he married Beverly Denman. They divorced in 1979, and he was remarried to Bertie Lee in 1981.
He worked as a farm laborer and wood cutter until 1960, when he purchased a farm in the Newberg area. He raised pigs and chickens, and sat on the board of directors for the Oregon State Broiler Growers Association, where he helped implement "Grown in Oregon" labeling.
In 1970, he moved to Minnesota, returning to Newberg two years later. He continued to work for local industry until retiring in 1985.
He was active in the FFA and Boy Scouts in Newberg.
Survivors include: sons, Patrick of Newberg, Kelley of Yamhill and Kevin of Portland; daughters, Christine Wright and Linda Breaux of Whidby Island, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Michael, and his second wife, Bertie Wright.
A private memorial service was held by the family.
