Harold J. Herrman, 73, of LaCrosse, died Sunday, June 9, 1996 at the Hays Medical Center, Hadley Campus. He was born Jan. 2, 1923 in Liebenthal to Stephen and Anna (Kreutzer) Herrman.

He married Esther M. Rohr on April 18, 1949 in Ness City.

He was a 1941 graduate of LaCrosse High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for the Kansas Highway Dept. He founded the LaCrosse Rest Home and served as administrator for 15 years. From 1974 to 1992, he and his wife owned and operated the Green Acres Motel, LaCrosse. He also farmed. He was a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church and the Nekoma State Bank Borad of Directors, LaCrosse, and was a lifetime member of the LaCross VFW.

Survivors include his wife, LaCrosse; a son, Harland Stephen Herrman of Silver Creek, Neb.; two daughters, Marlene Lindahl of Abilene, and Joleen Murphee of Wichita; a brother, Stephen Herrman Jr. of Hayward, Calif.; seven sisters, Esther Schafer of LaCrosse, Helen Rupp of Plainville, Mary Munsch of Cheyenne Wells, Colo., Leona Klein of Ellinwood, Betty Martell and Anita Ruder, both of Hays, and Frances Holopirek of Timken; three grandchildren; two great-grandaughters.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rudolph and Reinhold S. Herrman; and a sister, Ruby Herrman.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Michael's Catholic Church, LaCrosse, with Fathers Eugene Kenny and Terrance Klein officiating; burial in the LaCrosse City Cemetery with military honors by McCracken American Legion. A rosary begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Janousek Funeral Home, LaCrosse. Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church.
