John Helton was the first of the family name to be recorded on the Knox County, Kentucky tax list when he first appeared March 23, 1801, 200 acres on the Cumberland River entered in the name of J. Collins and surveyed in the name of John Helton.
No Helton's are listed for the years 1802 through 1807.
Then, Shadrack Helton is listed for 1808 and 1809.
In 1810, a number of Helton's are recorded:
James Sr., James, Shadrack and John.
In 1811, the name of Henry and Peter were added.
