LOIS LORETTA BACKER, 82 years, of Tekamah, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2007, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Community in Blair.

Lois Meyer was born June 13, 1925, in Plymouth, NE, to Albert and Lena (Freese) Meyer. She graduated from Plymouth High School. After High School she moved to Lincoln, NE, were she attended nurses training. It was while she was in nurses training that she met Charles Backer. They were married August 11, 1946, at Plymouth, NE. They had 3 children, Cherie, Terry and Douglas.

Lois and Charles and family moved to Tekamah in 1961. She became involved with many community organizations. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and church circle, PEO, book club, duplicate bridge group and was a very involved volunteer and supporter of the Burt County Museum.

Lois was an avid gardener who particularly loved her roses. She and Charlie shared a life long passion for golfing.

Collecting antiques was an avocation of hers and she enjoyed it very much. Antiques of all kinds adorned her home and reflected her appreciation of their history and traditions.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Charles; son, Terry, and sister Alene.

She is survived by her daughter: Cherie and her husband, Roger Krueger of Bismarck, ND; son, Douglas of Omaha; seven grandchildren, Jessica Jensen of Sioux Falls, SD; John Krueger of Bismarck, ND; Joe Backer and Lexi Backer of Omaha, NE; Rick Backer of Des Moines, IA; Rachel George of Aurora, NE; Angela Koch of Lincoln, NE; one brother Maynard Meyer of Plymouth, NE; three sisters, Anita Skalnik of Lincoln, NE; Fern Schultz of Modesto, CA; and Marie Gans of Anaheim, CA.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday, December 15, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah, Nebraska.
