Plattsburg Leader, Plattsburg, Mo. 9-11-1896: John Major, an old citizen and well known in Northwest Missouri, died Tuesday night at the home of his sister, Mrs. Dr. Bernard at Haynesville. The remains were brought here yesterday at 10 o'clock, and interred in the Old Cemetery, Dr. T. P. Stafford conducting services at the grave. The deceased was nearly eighty years of age. He came to Missouri from Kentucky in 1852. He bought stock for the Armours a number of years and they valued his services very highly. He carried as much as $5,000 and $10,000 in his saddle bags. He lived here at one time.--Liberty Tribune.
