Donald E. Schimmel,83, of rural Michigantown, died at 10:10 a.m. Jan. 4, 2005, in Wesley Manor, Frankfort,IN. Born Sept. 4, 1921, in Clinton County, he was a lifelong county resident.
He married Blanche Brittian on July 9, 1948, in Michigantown. She died Aug.9,1982. He married Daisy Strong Weaver on Aug.24,1984, in Boyleston. She survives.
Mr. Schimmel retired after 38 years with Norfolk and Southern Railroad on June 29,1984. He was an Army veteran and served in the Medical Corps from 1942 to 1945.
He was a member of the Boyleston Baptist Church and American Legion in Frankfort. He enjoyed antique tractors and was in the Frankfort and Tipton parades.
Survivors include 3 stepdaughters, Patricia J. Newton(Larry) of Michigantown; Nancy S. Bowman (Rex) of Lebanon; Jayne Courtot of Irving, TX; a stepson, Ron Weaver of Michigantown; a sister, Bonnie Bushman of Frankfort; a half-sister, Patricia Baughman of Frankfort; and a half-brother, Ed Schimmel of Clinton Co.
Survivors include 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a sister, Helen Johnston; a brother, Doyal Schimmel; a half-brother, Paul Stinson; and a half-sister, Betty Stinson Hibner.
