Floyd B. Slabaugh, of Elkhart a native of
Nappanee died of a heart attack at 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday in the LaSalle street train station
in Chicago. Mr. And Mrs. Slabaugh and their
son in law and daughter, Mr. And Mrs. William
A. Kohn, of Unionville, Pa., had driven by
automobile Aug. 17 to visit another son, Dr.
Carlyle B. Slabaugh, and family of Corpus
Christi, Texas. While there, the elder
Slabaugh, suffered a heart attack, had
recovered sufficiently to return home by train.
The group was in the depot changing trains
when the fatal attack occurred. Slabaugh was
born Aug. 21, 1883 near Nappanee and
married Dina Hartman June 15, 1909. They
lived in Nappanee, where he served as
cashier of the First National Bank until
moving to Elkhart in 1927. He was a
certified public accountant and tax expert.
Survivors include the widow, the daughter,
Mrs Kohn; three sons, Dr. W. H. Slabaugh,
of Corvallis, Ore.: Dr. Carlyle Slabaugh of
Corpus Christi, and J. Ross Slabaugh of
Dearborn, Mich.: eight grandchildren and
two brothers C. E. And Woodie Slabaugh,
both of Nappanee. Slabaugh was a member
of the Church of the Good Shepherd and
the Masonic lodge at Nappanee. He served
two terms as Elkhart county treasurer and
two terms as deputy. Funeral services will
be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church
of the Good Shepherd in Elkhart and
burial will be in Union Center cemetery
northeast of Nappanee.
