Sarah Ellen Hartley died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Raleigh Stull, St. Joseph, Mo. She was 81 years old when she died.

In March 1868 she married Jerry Hartley of Astoria and they had nine children. Children include: Lillian Isabel, Minnie D, Hattie M, Ora Arla, Cora Lee, Rueben Anie.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Hartley made their home in Astoria for several years and then moved to Hannibal, MO. where Mr. Hartley died in 1914. Mrs. Hartley then made her home with her son, Arla Hartley,who passed away in 1924, since which time she made her home with her daughters.

note: James and Nancy (Ogle) married in 1851, it is thought that Sarah and Mary J's mother was Mary Shayer whom died in 1848, married James in 1845. Nancy raised them.
