Lee G. Carney, 16, of 202 Manheim Ave., died today at 2:45 a.m. in St. Joseph's Hospital after an illness of three days.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
The boy's stepfather said today that he understood the boy had sustained an accidental head blow late last week but didn't know the details. He said that officials had told him today that death was not due to the blow. The boy stayed home from school Monday, complaining of a headache. He saw a doctor Monday afternoon. He was taken to the hospital Monday evening.
Born in Honesdale, Pa., he resided in Lancaster 14 months and was a sophomore at Manheim Twp. High School.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd C. Welles; a brother, Thomas Carney; a sister, Loretta; two half-brothers, Carl Welles and David Welles, all at home; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hurley Carney, Waymart; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Claud Beckwith, Waymart.
Arrangements by Oliver H. Shifler Funeral Home, Waymart, Pa. Interment, Clinton Center Cemetery with services conducted by Rev. Russell Edwards. Pallbearers: Stanley Shemanski, Jr., Dominic Gigliotti, Jr., Richard Beckwith and John Beckwith.
