Another Pioneer Called
Jonathan Adams, Well Known Resident of Buena Vista, Passes Away.

The many friends of Jonathan Adams, who was one of the pioneer settlers of the town of Buena Vista, will regret to learn that he passed away at his home in that town on April 26. Mr. Adams was one of the highly respected pioneers of the county, and his loss will be keenly felt.

Mr. Adams was born in Alden, NY, 83 y ears ago, and came to WIsconsin with his parents while a small child, the family locating in this county, which had since been his home. At the age of 19 he was married to Miss Maranda Kingsbary, and to this union two children were born. Mrs. Adams passed away before the Civil War. The deceased was one of the first to respond to the call for volunteers when the great struggle broke out, his first enlistment being with the 2nd Illinois Zouaves, with whom he served for three months. He re-enlisted in Company A, 8th Wisconsin Volunteers, with which regiment he served 3 years, and saw some of the severest fighting which took place during the war. After three years' service with the regiment he was mustered out but re-entered the service with the 47th Wisconsin Infantry, and served until the end of the hostilities. At the expiration of each of these enlistments he received an honorable discharge.

At the close of the war he returned to this county and was united in marriage to Miss Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Jillson. Born 16 Aug 1848 died 3 Dec 1920. To this union 12 children were born, of which number six survive to mourn his loss.

Besides his aged widow he leaves two sons and four daughters, George, Oshkosh, 2nd Alfred, who resides at home; Mrs. Mary Stetler, Stevens Point; Mrs. Jessie Barden, Wild Rose; Mrs. Grayce Puariea, Buena Vista; and Mrs. Martha Hardy, Lebanon Ore. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary Carpenter, Almond; and two brothers, Jerome and George, of Buena Vista.

The funeral services were held on Sunday, April 28, from the late home at 2 o'clock and from the church at 2:30, internment following in the Buena Vista cemetery.
