Frank Thatcher Saunders, 76, died after a long illness on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 1972 in a Sunnyvale, Calif., convalescent home.

Mr. Saunders, the youngest of twelve children of David Albert Saunders and Lucy Grover Saunders, was born in Farmington, Dec. 17, 1895.

He attended public school in Farmington and Henager's Business College in Salt Lake City where he completed a nine month course in six months.

In boyhood, Frank worked on local farms, at Lagoon resort, at the sugar factory office in Garland and in Salt Lake City. While still in his teens, Mr. Saunders went to Chicago where he worked for a business machine firm.

In Chicago, he met and married Mame Wall and she preceded him in death by nine years.

Mr. Saunders served with the Engineers during World War I. Eventually he joined the Bethlehem Steel Company and advanced to an executive position in that company. He remained with Bethlehem Steel until his retirement.

For a number of years, Mr. Saunders and his family lived in Chattanooga, Tenn., and was then transferred to San Francisco, Calif., where he lived until his illness.

Mr. Saunders had two children, his only son, Frank T. Saunders, Jr., was a pilot and navigator in World War II. His plane was shot down over Italy where he was later buried. His daughter, Mrs. Evan (Jane) Wythe, lives in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Other survivors include a brother, Doan Clarence Saunders, Sr., Farmington; a sister, Mrs. Nellie S. Dawson, Colfax, Calif., a granddaughter and four great grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on Monday, Nov. 13, at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, Calif.
