DNA Sample submitted by descendent of Randolph: The primary goal of The Hazelwood FTDNA Project is to find related lines of Hazelwoods / Haselwoods / Hazlewood through genetic testing So far genetic testing results have revealed three separate branches of Hazelwoods. Click the results tab to see these relationships. Pedigrees can be viewed by clicking the blue linked names. These names represent the earliest known ancestor of each particpant.
Project News:June 2007 DNA results have arrived for the descendant of Randolph Hazlewood and Mary Logsdon Hazlewood. His line is related to the other five lines in Group II.
April 2007 Thirty-seven marker results for the descendant of Asa and Judith Willard Hazlewood have arrived! His results show that his line is related to the other four lines of Hazelwoods from Virginia and Tennessee.
Project Results:
Three separate Hazelwood lines have been shown to exist so far through DNA testing.
The first lineage is represented by a Hazelwood whose earliest known ancestor was from Suffolk, England, which according to the UK 1881 Census held the highest density of Hazelwoods.
• Thomas Hazelwood (died 1784) of Suffolk, England

The following five participants represent the second lineage.
• Joshua Morris Hazlewood (born 1824) of Tennessee
• Little Berry Hazelwood (born 1795) of Campbell County, Virginia
• Edward Hazelwood (born 1799) of Patrick County, Virginia
• Daniel Haselwood (born 1737) of New Kent County, Virginia
• Asa Hazlewood (born 1800) of Halifax County, Virginia
• Randolph Hazlewood (born 1789) of Charlotte County, Virginia
As of yet, a paper trail has not connected these six men's lines, but DNA results prove these six individuals are related. The top four Hazelwoods listed match on all 37 markers. The Randolph and Asa lineages are very close matches, 35/37 and 34/37 respectively.

The third lineage consists of Robert Hazzlewood of Sheffield England (died 1825) - his son Adam Hazelwood Sr emigrated to Florida; and John Hazlewood (1795-1881) of Leinster, Ireland. This lineage is not connected to the first two groups.
