Jim's father was the minister, Rosella's father was the church organist and her mother was a Sunday school teacher. They married on 22 June 1957 at Lark Church, the ceremony officiated by Jim's father.
The couple moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he attended college on the GI Bill. Jim's work took them to many places, including several Chicago suburbs, Pennsylvania, England and Florida before they moved to Oregon to be near their children.
