Monroe Allen "Joe" Bass died in a Lake Charles hospital. He was a native of the Green Island Community. He was born in Lunita. He graduated from Starks High School as salutatorian in 1942. He married the former Dora Stanley of Green Island. He was Pentecostal and a member of Calvary Apostolic Church. He was a charter member of the Starks Historical Society and VFW Post 3802. He served honorably in the Navy in the Pacific Theater Amphibious branch in World War II. He served on various civic boards. He worked as a machinist and was employed by Livingston Shipyard in Orange, Texas. He loved to read Shakespeare.

Earthly treasures include three daughters, Linda and husband Emmitt, Molly and husband John, and Brenda Jo; two grandsons, Justin and John Madison; one great-granddaughter, Sydney Madeline; one special nephew, Billy R.; three brothers, Fred, Glen, and Clifford; one sister, Faye.
