By records found at the Hendryville Church, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, Adam was born to Col. Leonard and Susanna Beck on July 13, 1782. (Calculating the above age -June 8, 1782 would be his birhtdate). He was batizied in August. His father was given land in Westmoreland County by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for his military services and this is where Adam was raised.
Adam Beck met and married Mariah Wegley, duaghter of Isaac and Catherine Wegley of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. They were the parents of nine children: Catherine, John, Jacob, Adam Jr., Leonard, Mary, Susanna, Isaac and Daniel. Miriah died in 1828.
Adam met and married Catherine Worman in Greensburg,Pennsylvania. They moved to Jefferson Township, Crawford County, Ohio in 1829, where Adam purchased 160 acres of land from Benjamin Johns. Five of Adam's brothers and sisters had already moved to the state of Ohio. The Sandusky river provided power for Adam and his son, John, to build a saw-mill in 1831; then in 1835, they changed it to a grist-mill.
Catherine became ill and died August 4, 1845. A young lady, Miriah Smith, had been hired to help in the home and care for Catherine. She and Adam were married on November 7, 1845. They became the parents of Caroline Lucretia Beck.
