Harriet was born in Fayette, Howard Co MO. Her parents were Jacob Burton and Mary Ann Burton. Harriet not only raised her own six children, but she always took in those needing help. She was an active member of Mt Zion Baptist Church. She supported her family doing laundry and housework. And to family and friends was a very talented midwife. Harriet was born into slavery in Howard Co MO. She later moved to Chillicothe with her life long friend Elizabeth Burton Hutchison, and lived with the James Hutchison family until the time of her marriage. Harriet remained an active and involved part of the Hutchison family, until her dieing day.
