KAY MARIE "SISSY" BRIDGES

Funeral services for Kay Marie "Sissy" Bridges, were held Thursday, January 13, in the Cowboy Church, Pool Arena with Rev. Paul Lutz, pastor officiating. Mrs. Bridges died January 11, 2005 in a Lawton, Oklahoma hospital.
Burial was held in the Elgin Memorial Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma under the direction of Hodge Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bridges was born March 1, 1940 in Trent, Texas to Hunter and Ola Geisler Swann. She was raised on the Spade Ranch between Colorado City and San Angelo where her dad, brother and other family members had spent most of their lives as cowboys. She attended school in Colorado City where she played volleyball, basketball and was a cheerleader. Her professional career went from being a bank teller in Plano to working in a Tax Office and Building Inspection Office in Garland to becoming the Building Official in Grapevine in 1980. She was the first woman building official in Texas and one of the first in the United States.
Kay and Roger "Buddy" Bridges were married June 21, 1980 in Garland and moved to the Elgin area in 1983. Kay then worked for the City of Elgin and owned and operated a flower shop in Fletcher for several years. She later was a Quality Control Inspector on numerous buildings at Fort Sill, including a Maintenance Financial Center, a dining facility, several barracks and a clinic. Her last job before retiring in 2002 was a s Quality Control Inspector for the Lawton Central Junior High School.
She is survived by her husband, Buddy, of the home; her mother, Ola Swann of Colorado City; a son, Gary Maples and his wife, Pam of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Sharon Roper and her husband, Billy of Oklahoma City; a step-son, Michael Bridges and his wife, Tonia, of Lewisville; a stepdaughter, Carrie Peacock and her husband, Jason, of Frisco; a sister, Joan Love and her husband, Rab, of Baytown; a brother, Gary "Bubba" Swann of Colorado City; one grandson, two granddaughters, two step granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hunter Swann and infant daughter, Marilyn Maples and a stepson, Rodney Bridges.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in memory of Kay, to the Cowboy Church, Pool Arena, 3183 NW King Rd., Apache, Oklahoma 73006
