He attended Audubon County Schools and during World War II served with the U.S. Army in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters where he received both Silver and Bronze Battle Stars.
On May 12, 1948 he married Neitha Dorsey Andersen at Atlantic, Iowa. They farmed near Exira until they moved into Exira 9 years ago. He was a member of Brayton Post No. 350, American Legion. He worked with his uncle, Roy Littlefield at beekeeping and after his uncle's death continued to keep bees up to the present.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Glen Littlefield.
