Richard J. Smasal, 51, of 2043 Jackson St., New Holstein, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1992, at the Willowdale Nursing Home, in New Holstein.

He was born Jan. 2, 1941, in the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, a son of the late Edwin and Henrietta Stueven Smasal. He was a welder at Gilson Manufacturing in Plymouth, until retiring in 1984.

On May 9, 1964 he married Rose Weber at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a tank driver in Germany from 1959 to 1962.

Survivors include his wife, Rose; one son, Scott of Kenosha; two daughter, Mrs. Sharon (Larry) Faust of Pembroke, Ky., and Sandra Smasal of New Holstein; two brothers, Kenneth (June) Smasal of Rockville and Allen (Carol) Smasal of Kiel; two sisters, Mrs. Darlene (Gerald) Kornetzke of Grafton, and Rosemary Vogel, of Kiel. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were Tuesday at the Erbe-Evjen Funeral Home in New Holstein, the Rev. Peter Coffrey officiating. Burial was in the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
