Lester C. Simmons dies May 23, 2006
Funeral services for Lester Chester Simmons, 82, of Middletown were held Saturday, May 27, at 2:00 at Myers Funeral Home in Middletown. Steven Wick officated at the service.
Mr. Simmons died at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2006 , at Gamma Road Nursing Center in Wellsville.
Visition was held at Myers Funeral Home in Middletown Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service.
Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown. Serving as pall-bearers were Jim Levick, Alex Simmons, Dennis Simmons, Ken Simmons, Marvin Simmons, and Steven Wick. Wellsville VFW Post 3056 was in charge of the military service at the cemetery.
Mr. Simmons was born August 7, 1923, in Corning, Arkansas, a son of James Edward and Delia Robinson Simmons. He was married to Frances Lillie Bruce on September 5, 1959 in Piggot, Ark. She survives at the home.
He had resided at Middletown since May 25, 1994. Prior to that he lived in Princeton, Iowa for 36 years. He was a retired employee of Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) where he was a scale clerk for 33 years in Davenport, Iowa. He was a member of the AFLCIO-International Union. He served his country in the U.S.Army in World War 11. He was a member of the Troy Church of Christ.
Survivors in addition to his wife Frances Lillie Simmons include children- Nancy and Jim Levick of Brookston, Indiana, Judy and Steven Wick of Cuba, MO., Ken Simmons of Wheaton, Illinois, Dennis Simmons of Princeton, Iowa, Carol Peterson of Inola, Oklahoma, and Marvin and Cindy Simmons of Muscatine, Iowa: 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Maudie Bennett of Moline, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ted Simmons, Orla Simmons, Wayne SImmons, Sylvester Simmons, (Lesters twin brother) and sisters Lena Allen and Marie McCulum. Memorials may be made to the Troy Church of Christ.
