Violet Hunter is my Great-Great-Grandmother. She was born in County Tyrone, Ireland (nine miles from Londonderry) on March 3, 1802. At the age of 16 she traveled to Londonderry, Ireland, and from there she sailed to America. After a long and stormy passage of six weeks, landed in New York City where she remained some two months. Then she went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by steamboat and on to Schaefferstown, in Heidelberg Twp., Lebanon County, Pennsylvania by stage to the home of her Uncle Houston arriving there on October 31, 1818. She remained with her Uncle for nine months, then went to Lewistown in Mifflin Co., where she resided for a short time doing work in a hotel. From there she went to Kishacoquillas valley, where she met with Thomas Bailey and married him on August 31, 1824.
