Diane M. Anderson was born on May 6, 1938, at her parents home in Winneshiek County, Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Orval and Adeline (Haugen) Bergan. She was baptized and confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. She was a 1956 graduate of Decorah High School and a 1959 graduate of Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis as a Registered Nurse. Diane was united in marriage to Norvin Anderson, son of Henry and Norma (Wangness) Anderson, of Ridgeway on March 12, 1960 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. This union was blessed with three children: Kevin, Kim, and Lori.

Diane worked as an RN for 40 years as well as Inservice Director, Director of Nursing, Acting Administrator, Outreach Director, Safety Officer, and HIV Counselor at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital. She had a genuine concern for the people in the community and willingly volunteered her time and talents at church and other organizations. She had many hobbies and loved to spend time with her grandchildren - one could find her at all of their sporting events, stock car races, school programs, and concerts. She also enjoyed playing cards with her family and close friends and decorating the house and cooking for her family during the holidays.

Diane left to be with the Lord on Monday morning, April 20, 2009 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI, after complications of the heart. She was 70 years of age. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Adeline Bergan and her mother- and father-in-law, Henry and Norma Anderson.

Diane is survived by her husband, Norvin of Decorah; three children: Kevin Anderson of Decorah, Kim (Keith) Kearns of Clear Lake, IA, and Lori (Dave) Steffen of Decorah; eight grandchildren, Dillon, Dacia, and Brittney Anderson, Dallas, Dustin and Cole Steffen, Kayla and Kody Kearns. She is also survived by two brothers: Duane (Cheryl) Bergan of Decorah, Daryl (Donna) Bergan of Decorah; three sisters: Elaine (Jerry) Gipp of Decorah, Linda (Stuart) Collins of Burnsville, MN, and Donna Gavle of Decorah; and by a multitude of brothers-and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
