Daughter of Lt. Eli James P. Ayres,(1830-1862)and Jane Harriott Vance Ayres. Lily was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, in Attala County. She painted a oil painting of her childhood home, 'Oak Lawn Plantation" which was not only her home but the home of her grand-parents, John Ayres and Cynthia Snow Ayres. Oak Lawn Plantation was located near the post of Hamlet of Ayres in southwestern Attala County, Mississippi. Her painting is now on display at a museum in Georgia. She was a self taught artist who painted primarily country & forest scenes. Lily came to Texas with her brother James and settled in Hearne, Robertson County Texas. She met William David Terry and married June 7, 1885 In Hearne Texas. She and her husband were parents to Lula Terry, James Albert, Willie Bell, John Eli, Lougenia, Charles Bryan, Edward Bernard, Dwight L.D., Cilfford Whitney, and Helen G. Terry.
