He was captured at the Battle of Fredricksburg and spent several harrowing months in the infamous Libby Prison.
After the war, Azariah prospered as a farmer in Ewing and West Windsor Townships, before retiring to Hamilton Square. He served as Hamilton Township Clerk and Assessor.
