Dan Baughman, 60, of Noble and O'Fallon, went to be with his Lord and Saviour at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at his residence in O'Fallon after a year-long fight with cancer.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Rennels and Rev. Shane Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Block Cemetery in Greenup.
Dan was born on January 29, 1949, in Olney, the son of Montie J.R. and Marie Evelyn "Dot" (Laymon) Baughman. He married Gail Thomann on August 21, 1971. She survives.
He graduated from West Richland High School, Olney Central College and Eastern Illinois University. Upon obtaining a bachelor's degree in business, he became employed at Horace Mann Insurance in Springfield. He excelled in the insurance field with further employment at Fort Dearborn Life and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, becoming the youngest regional manager of the company (as manager in Peoria). He then established his own agency rather than accepting promotion offers to Chicago. Baughman & Associates grew to provide employment for all members of the family located in Noble and O'Fallon. He served on the First National Bank in Olney board for 20 years with 10 years as Chairman of the Board. He was a member of Glenwood Church in Noble.
Dan will be sadly missed by the family he loved so much, wife, Gail; son, Jared Baughman and his wife, Julie and children, Haley and McKenna, of O'Fallon; daughter, Renee Nix and her husband Craig, and children, Marisa and Carson, of O'Fallon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
