Fred Aten

Funeral services for Fred Aten, 83, of Buffalo and a former Lance Creek area resident, were held Monday, April 29, 1991 at 10 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Casper.

Aten died Wednesday, April 24, 1991, at the Johnson County Memorial Hospital. Friends may, if they wish, donate to the Grace Fellowship Building Fund in care of the Adams Funeral Home.

He was born May 1, 1907, in Atkinson, Neb. to Fred and Rose Aten. He grew up and received his schooling in Long Pine, Neb., and worked on highway construction for several years. He was married in 1931 in South Dakota to Louella Mae Booher and they made their home in Nebraska, Nevada and Idaho where he worked in copper mines.

They moved to Lance Creek Oil Field in 1943 where Fred worked for Continental Oil Company and in 1956 they were transferred to Linch, Wyo., where he continued to work for Continental. Mrs. Aten died in January 1964 and he continued to live in Linch until he retired in 1986.

He was married Sept. 27, 1966, in Buffalo to Becky Skiles and they made their home in Buffalo until the time of his death. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed photography, fishing, hunting and gunsmithing.

He is survived by his wife, Becky, of Buffalo; one daughter, Fredda Lou Kilmer of Lusk; one son Willard of Lander; two step-daughters, Jane Devoe of Buffalo and Jackie Tozier of Casper; one brother, Clifford Aten of Roseberg, Ore.; one sister, Gertrude Greder of Buck Grove, Iowa; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one brother, one grandson and one daughter-in-law.
