Harold Arthur Gibbons was the son of Harold Watson Gibbons and Marion Leila (Coe) Gibbons of Westfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, where he learned what it meant to be the son of a dairy farmer. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and came home to marry Althea Mae Guilmette of Athol, Massachusetts, with the objective of attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute following the war. He became an electrical engineer and worked for many years as a supervisor at Westinghouse. He built a house in West Springfield, Massachusetts, where his children attended school. He joined the Methodist Church with his family, and attended the Masonic Elm Lodge of which he became a past master. Before his youngest son had graduated from high school, Westinghouse moved his family to Colonie, New York. When they returned to Massachusetts, they settled in Holyoke. Later in life, Harold and Althea became snowbirds, spending summers in Athol, Massachusetts, and winters in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. He died at the hospital in Fort Pierce, Florida, and following a funeral service in the south his remains were returned to Massachusetts where a simple graveside service was held in Athol.
