Daughter of Dr. Jonas Ickes & Mary (Duncan) Ickes. Henrietta was born in New Bloomfield, PA & was the fourth in a family of eight children: Susan, Nicholas, Joseph, Elizabeth, Isabella, Alfred, Moriah & Samuel.

On December 9, 1843, Henrietta married William Eyre Bowers in Carlisle, PA. Following their marriage, Henrietta & William settled in Mifflin, Schuylkill County, PA where William was engaged in a shoemaking establishment for several years. Hennrietta & William had the following children: Abner Davis, Mary Elizabeth, Clara Seville, William Eyre, Jr., Annie Irene, Charles Lewis, Susan Harding, Ulric Dahlgrin, Sarah Louise & George Franklin.

In 1867, Henrietta & William moved to Knox County, Illinois & settled in Gilson where William engaged in a shoe business & in agricultural labor - they also owned a farm in that area.

Three years later, in 1870, they sold their farm, moved, & became the second other settler to homestead 160 acres of raw prairie in Lincoln Township, Sedgwick County, Furley, KS. Three years later, in 1873, Henrietta contracted influenza and passed away. She became the first person to be buried in the Green Valley Cemetery, Furley, KS.
