Our beloved and cherished Leigh Boone went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 11, 2009.

Leigh was born September 14, 1979, in Houston, Texas.

She is survived by her father, Keith Boone, of Houston, her mother, Linda Zapalac and husband, George Zapalac, of Austin, Texas, brother, George Boone and nephews, Spencer and Cole Boone, all of Houston, Texas, and stepbrothers Mario and Michael Pena, of Humble, Texas.

Leigh is also survived by many other family members as well as numerous loving friends.

Leigh was a graduate of Houston's Lamar High School and The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Theater Arts.

Following graduation from UT, she served two professional internships in Stage Management at The Juilliard School, New York, and Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Massachusetts.

She also was an invited Assistant Stage Manager with artist and director Robert Wilson's The Watermill Center, Long Island, New York.

Leigh began her career in theater with the traveling company of the San Francisco Opera.

She then moved to New York City where she worked with numerous companies, including operas, dance, and symphonies from the United States and Europe.

Leigh enjoyed the variety and took on each challenge with passion and an eagerness to excel in each endeavor.

She moved with ease between the performing arts, although her greatest passion was dance. While in New York, Leigh became a member of the Actors' Equity Association, which opened up new opportunities.

She worked on the Women's Project, which showcased and promoted Women Playwrights, and served as part of the stage crew for the 2006 Carnegie Hall Concert Performance of South Pacific starring Reba McIntyre.

Following the 2006 performing arts season, Leigh left the theater and became Operations Manager for White Box, a non-profit contemporary art space.

This new interest in the visual arts, and the challenges it presented, provided her the chance to travel to Moscow to assist in installing an art project for White Box.

Leigh loved to travel and meet new people and everyone that she touched was forever changed and made richer by her broad friendly smile and winsome way. In 2007, Leigh returned to Houston to be closer to her family and began work at Edin, a clothing boutique, near her home in Montrose.

She also worked at Houston Center for Photography, which soon became a full-time job, as Executive Administrative Assistant.

After joining HCP full-time, Leigh continued to work part-time at Edin, designing, constructing, and installing displays.

In the short time, Leigh was back in Houston, her charm, influence, and presence was felt by all in her community.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday, April 19, 2009, from 4 until 8 o'clock in the evening at the Bradshaw-Carter Home, 1734 West Alabama Street.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 20, 2009, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage, Houston, Texas with the Rev. Dr. Russell J. Levenson, Jr. and the Rev. Dr. John K. Graham officiating.

Burial will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Leigh's memory may be made to The Leigh Boone Memorial Fund at Encore Bank, 2049 West Gray, Houston, Texas 77019, or the St. Martin's Foundation, 717 Sage, Houston, Texas 77056.
