PLAINVILLE - Joseph B. Beiker, 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at the Plainville Rural Hospital. He was born June 1, 1914, in Russell to Joseph C. and Anna (Weigel) Bieker.

He married Elvera Holzhauer on July 26, 1944, in Plainville.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as an M.P. He was a relief pumper for Gulf Oil Co., then a cable tool dresser and rancher. He had been a Plainville resident for 53 years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville, and a Scout Master for the Plainville Boy Scouts.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; five sons, Tom, Lenexa, Steve and Ken, both of Wichita, Bob, Palco, and Gene, Johnson; two daughters, Sue Beiker, Aurora, Colo., and Chris Sauber, Salina; a brother, Alfred Bieker, Reno, Nev.; two sisters, Mary Walker, Hays, and Anna Jacobs, Russell; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Doug, June 29, 1995, two brothers and a sister.

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville, with Father Joe Popelka officiating; burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 pm. Friday at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, Plainville. A guild rosary is at 3 p.m. and parish vigil at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the church.
