Mrs. George Smith, 80 years old died at her home in St. Paul, Tuesday February 14 after lingering illness of several months. Born in Sheldon, Wyoming County, NY on January 12, 1853. Dau of Nicholas Amos George FAG 80207970 and Catherine Goffene FAG 80208026.
She came to Kansas in 1872 and was married to George Metzger the following year. Two children born to this union. George and Joseph Metzger. In 1876 her husband died. Her marriage to George Smith took place in 1882, of this marriage 6 children were born.
Mrs. Smith lived on a farm north of St. Paul until a number of years ago when she moved to St. Paul where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a real pioneer of Kansas and endured the hardships of those days with courage and fortitude, a Christian mother and a good neighbor, and her passing will be sadly mourned by all who knew her.
