Herbert Bertsch, of Jamestown, ND passed away Monday Jan. 19, 2009 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown. Herbert was born in McPherson County, SD to Karl and Matilda (Pleinis) Bertsch on May 8, 1922. He is a graduate of Ashley High School and attended Minot State University. Herbert was united in marriage to Orpha Wahl on November 25, 1943 in Ashley, ND. He served in the United States Army from 1945-1947. After returning from war, he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education at North Dakota State Ellendale Normal and Industrial College. Mr. Bertsch spent many years as a teacher and coached sports in several North Dakota School Districts before retiring in 1985.
Herbert is survived by his wife and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha Schauer; and brothers, Adolph, Reinhold, and Edwin. Funeral services were held January 22, at the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, with Pastor David Thompson officiating.
