Dean was born on Oct. 26, 1951, in Osage, the son of Othmar and Gladys (Smith) Blake. He graduated from Osage High School in 1969.

Following high school he engaged in farming and has continued to farm. He later started working as a mechanic and worked in various shops until he opened B&J Auto, Mason City, in 1978, which he has continued to own and operate.

He enjoyed hunting, going to farm auctions and especially spending time with his family and friends. He was well known for helping others without wanting credit, telling stories and jokes to make people laugh. He would also be known for his ability to be a good listener. He took great pride in restoring his red barn, which he has registered with Iowa Barn Restoration.

He is survived by his mother Gladys Blake, Stacyville; five children, Jason (Christy) Blake, Grafton, Chad Blake and his girlfriend Larken Amador, Clear Lake, Aaron (Casie) Sheehan, Shakopee, Minn., Amanda (Joe) Siems, Manly and Anna Blake, Nora Springs; eight grandchildren, Kelsey Blake, Blazer Blake, Morgan Heidick, Carissa Blake, Carina Blake, Aidan Sheehan, Jalen Blake and Qyeison Blake-Tate; four brothers, John (Mary) Blake, Cottonwood, Minn., Dano (Sue) Blake, Stacyville, David (Kathy) Blake, Osage and Tim (Kathie) Blake, Osage; and two sisters, Jean (Dennis) Hemann, Osage and Janet (Jeff) Chapman, Marshall, Minn.; and sister-in-law Joan Blake, St. Ansgar.
